Master the Art of Authentic Communications. Get the results you crave!

In the world of sales, presentations, and every important communication-being authentic and communicating effectively is key to capturing your audience’s attention and making a lasting impact. Today, I want to drop 3 TOP TIPS into your inbox, to help you to better navigate your week. These tips are proven- whether you’re speaking/ listening to clients. Are you feeling lost in the crowd, falling behind… then listen up! I’ll help you get your 4th quarter back on track.

The Arc to Authenticity

Authenticity is at the heart of impactful communication. It differentiates you in a sea of voices. By being genuine, you ensure that your intended message is not only heard but also understood and valued. The goal is for people to listen, believe, and engage with you. Decisions are made, based on engagement.

Preparation: Your Greatest Ally

No hack replaces being prepared. Connect with your host or guest beforehand, discuss the episode’s direction, and know your key points. This preparation allows you to present smoothly without getting tangled in your thoughts, avoiding those dreaded fillers like “um” or “uh.”

Russell Wilson, an athlete, once said, “Preparation is the separation.” This mantra is a reminder that being well-prepared sets you apart and allows you to speak with ease and assurance.

1.) How do you start? Center Yourself: The Navy Seals Technique

Preparation is everything. There’s a technique called the “Navy Seals Body of Evidence” — a powerful blend of breathing and mindset that keeps your voice steady and confident. Try four sets of four-boxed breathing: inhale for four seconds, hold, exhale, and hold again. This simple 16-second exercise is a game-changer, grounding you in moments of panic or doubt. I credit my therapist-yeah, bring your mental health top of mind… for creating this for me.

But this breathing is only half the technique. The “secret sauce” is compounding the tactical breathing with your “body of evidence” – achievements and milestones that remind you of your worth and capability – fills you with the right confidence that you belong and add value wherever you communicate. I just shared this technique at an event I attended on Saturday. The achievement can be personal or professional. The success just needs to matter to you. I shared about my experience completing a marathon in Berlin, Germany in 2017. I had no place competing in a marathon in another country, alone… yet there I was… at the start and at the FINISH LINE! I try not to bore people with “running stories” but I think of crossing the finish line in Berlin to remind me that I deserve a seat at the communications table. Then- I breathe 16 seconds- and I’m ready to begin!

2.) Avoid the Trap of Upspeak

Another vital aspect is maintaining your confidence when you speak. Avoid ending statements in a way that sounds like a question, known as “upspeak,” which can convey insecurity to your listeners. Keep your pitch and tone steady, enhancing listener engagement and portraying authority.

3.) The Power of Physicality

Your physical posture impacts your voice. Sitting up straight with open posture improves your airflow and helps you convey a stronger, more confident voice. Remember, a relaxed but upright stance ensures your natural voice – neither strained nor mumbled – is heard.

Make these techniques an integral part of your playbook- and also your team’s playbook. Use these tips to master authenticity in your communications, ensuring your message is both received and remembered. The key is to generate results! Sales, revenue, public speaking, Whether you’re hosting a podcast or guesting, aim to be genuine, prepared, and engaging. Remember, your voice deserves a seat at the table, so speak confidently and authentically every time. Let that arc take you to your pot of gold!
